Students and staff had an exciting morning with Dr. Watson, the Kansas Commissioner of Education. USD 281 received three awards.
We received the Bronze Star Award for Postsecondary Effectiveness. Postsecondary effectiveness is the percentage of students who either earned an industry-recognized certification, a higher education degree or continued their education two years after graduation. The 5 year average for the state of Kansas is 48%. The 5 year average for USD 281 is 59%.
We also received the Gold Star Award for Graduation Rate. Dr. Watson compared this to winning a state championship. USD 281 has an outstanding graduation rate! Our 5 year average graduation rage is 96%. The 5 year state average is 86%.
Finally, USD 281 received the Commissioner’s Highest Distinction Award. Dr. Watson compared this award to winning a national championship. The Commissioner’s Award recognizes those districts that outperform their predicted postsecondary effectiveness rate above a .40 standard deviation. USD 281 performed 2 standard deviation points above our predicted average. Way to go Ringnecks!
Dr. Watson is only visiting 8 districts in the entire state so this is truly an honor. Thank you to the students, staff, families, and communities for supporting USD 281 students.
