The Kansas Scholastic Press Association is proud to announce the winners of the 2019 Regional Contests, which rewarded the best student journalism from among entries gathered from around the state.
Over the past month, 89 Kansas high schools submitted more than 2,100 entries to the KSPA Regional contest. Any student who earns an award in the Regional Contest advances to the KSPA State Contest which will be held on May 4 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
Sponsored by KSPA Advisors Kim and Collin Pfeifer, Hill City Junior/Senior High School Web and Digital Design Pathway students placed first in the Bison Regional held at Fort Hays State University on Monday, February 25. HCJ/SHS competitors earned five gold First Place honors; one silver; five bronze; and fourteen "honorable mentions" for a total of twenty-five places. The Hill City team was trailed by Ellis High School (2A) with eighteen places and by Central Plains High School (1A) with seventeen.
"The Ringnecks did a phenomenal job! Our students surpassed the ten-year Hill City Junior/Senior High School record of seventeen regional placings," said Mrs. Kim Pfeifer.
Mr. Collin Pfeifer added, "We are very proud of each of the competitors. They all worked very hard for many weeks to prepare. Congratulations to the state qualifiers."
